Wrestling dream matches might be hard to achieve if the wrestlers involved were working for two different brands. But a console battle? Well, that is a different affair entirely.
A fantasy match was made on the battlegrounds of this year’s E3 as New Day member Xavier Woods (otherwise known as Austin Creed on his YouTube channel UpUpDownDown) took on New Japan Pro Wrestling’s recently crowned IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kenny Omega.
Their game of choice? Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. The rules were simple – the first gamer to win five matches would be declared victorious.
Woods brought some backup in the form of his New Day teammates, Kofi Kingston and Big E, while Omega brought with him popular tag team The Young Bucks to be in his corner.
Reputation, pride and more were on the line – as the losing gamer (along with their team) had a date with eating a ghost pepper.
Suffice to say, it was a strange, surreal yet immensely entertaining moment from this year’s E3. Both wrestlers can certainly play Street Fighter and there was no shortage of good old fashion verbal taunting – including some stellar jabs from Omega at WWE. Oh, while we remember, watch out for those superkicks!
Whether your wrestling alliance lies with NJPW or WWE, you can’t help but enjoy this encounter.
