Our first Weekend Fuel selection features the return of Makoto Shinkai, Carmen Sandiego, Crash Bandicoot and good old Star Wars flying games!

Fancy a movie night this Saturday? Need a TV show to binge on a quiet Sunday? Maybe you want a new game to play? Well, we may have something that could help give your weekend a much-needed pick-me-up with our Weekend Fuel! We’ve compiled a list of movies, tv shows and games that might be worth checking out over the next few days.

Weathering With You

(Available on DVD, Blu-Ray & Digital Platforms)

Following the runaway success of Your Name, Makoto Shinkai’s latest film is another charming teenage romance fantasy and has a good chance of sunny skies.

Why the weather pun? Well, the film tells the story of a high-school boy who has run away to Tokyo and befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather. It’s an absolute must-watch for Shinkai fans.

While the standard DVD, Blu-Ray and Collector’s Editions have landed this week. There’s also a Deluxe Edition for the film coming in November exclusively to Zavvi.

(Available on DVD, Blu-Ray & Digital Platforms)

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the latest big-budget animated mystery from Scooby-Doo and the gang, Scoob! has now shifted from a cinema release to home entertainment release.

Tapping into Hannah-Barbara’s history, Mystery Inc take on the evil Dick Dasterley who is looking to solve the mystery and claim the treasure of The Three Skulls of Cerberus. Featuring the voices of Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Gina Rodriguez, Jason Issacs and Mark Walhberg. Scoob! is a simple distraction for families this weekend.

TV Shows

The Walking Dead: World Beyond

(Available on Amazon Prime)

The original Walking Dead series might be starting to wind down to a finish but that doesn’t mean that we’re leaving its zombie apocalypse universe. This new spin-off focuses on a group of teenagers who leave the safety of the only home they have ever known to embark on a dangerous cross-country journey to save their father. It’s going to be a difficult one with all those zombies out there. The show will be released on Amazon Prime in the UK with new episodes weekly. If you’re a fan of this popular horror universe, this is worth checking out!

Carmen Sandiego – Series 3

(Available on Netflix)

The Netflix reboot of the Carmen Sandiego video game series continues to roll on with its third series. Carmen and her talented team continue to tackle the criminal organisation V.I.L.E across the world. While that game of continuous cat and mouse plays out, Carmen is still on the hunt for the identity of her mother.

Video Games

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

(Available on Xbox One & Playstation 4)

For fans of the platforming bandicoot, Crash and friends are back in another epic adventure – this time it’s interdimensional. Devious villains Neo Cortex and Dr. N. Tropy have escaped and now are setting their sights on conquering not just one dimension but all dimension. If you enjoyed the N. Sane remake trilogy, this brand new original game is an absolute must.

Star Wars Squadrons

(Available on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 – with VR support for PC & PS4)

Gamers have had their fair share of Star Wars flight games over the years. Games like X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, Starfighter and Rogue Squadron gave players the taste of piloting in the galaxy far, far, away.

However, Star Wars Squadrons is presenting a very tantalising return trip. Offering gamers the chance to pilot an array of iconic Star Wars starships, it’s offering a chance for fans to be part of galactic dog fight battles like never before. If you’ve acquired a VR headset as well, you can play the game completely in VR too!

That’s all the Weekend Fuel suggestions we have for this week. Come back next Friday for another round-up of suggestions to power your geeky and nerdy needs for the weekend.
